U.S. Supercomputer Jaguar After doubling its speed from 25 teraflops to 54 teraflops, the 54-cabinet Cray XT3, the most powerful supercomputer for general scientific research in the United States has become the fifth fastest machine in the world earlier it (Jaguar) was ranked 13th. Another 68 cabinets will be added around November to double the supercomputer’s speed again to around 100 teraflops.

DreamWorks Animation is interested, after the Department of Energy has committed to make Jaguar available for unclassified peer-reviewed research, in using the machine to develop new algorithms for duplicating the effects of light and shade called “ray tracing” in 3-D animation. Companies like Boeing Co. wanting the supercomputer to help in the making of lighter, more energy-efficient airplanes.

That’s the fine move to use technology for commercial use and will pave the stone to make it worlds fastest machine.
