The U.S. Government is getting too serious about the data leaks and the cases of stolen Laptops that can raise some questions against the security of the United States.
To protect their data from getting into the hands of some terrorists the U.S. government is planning to use FDE (Full Disk Encryption) on all the computers that belong to the U.S. Government.
The Presidential Mandate was issued on June 23, 2006 requiring all the agency Laptops to fully encrypt all the data on the HDD of the Laptop. So that even if the Laptop is lost or is stolen its data remains protected.
The U.S. government is presently selecting the product that they will use for the encryption on millions of Laptops. This evaluation will come to an end in 90 days after which the final product will be selected.
