After launching 8GB microSD card for mobile phones, Samsung Electronics Co. has developed a 4GB multi-chip package (MCP) for mobile phones. Samsung’s 4GB MCP eliminates the need for external memory card slots and also eliminates to develop interface software for all types of NAND memory.
Samsung’s new moviMCP is embedded with moviNAND memory solution, which provides a simple-to-design memory package that satisfies the high-speed data transmission needs of mobile phones. The new moviMCP includes following things:
1) Two 16Gbit NAND flash chips and a controller
2) A 1Gbit mobile DRAM chip to support the processor
3) A 2Gbit NAND flash chip for general handset operations
Samsung uses the eMMC interface, based on the MultiMedia Card Association (MMCA) standard for embedded memory in effort to sidestep the difficulty of designing interfaces for different types of NAND flash memory. The new multichip package allows mobile handset manufactures to design smaller phones with higher storage capacity as well as significantly reduces the time required to develop these products.
