Intel will launch the third model of their multiple core processor, the Core 2 Quad at the CES-2007 that will be held in January 2007 in Las Vegas.

This launch will be a part of Intel’s move to remain ahead of AMD in the processor biz.

Earlier the company launched quad-core Xeon 5300 targeted at the server market and then launched the Core 2 Extreme that they aimed at the gamers. Their latest multi-core processor will be aimed at a broader spectrum of mainstream users that need high performance on their desktop systems.

On the other hand AMD has no plans to release their multi-core processors in CES-2007 and are saving their release for some time in the early 2007. Meanwhile to remain in competition with Intel, AMD is planning to slash the prices of its processors by around 8%.

Intel has already had a upper hand on the server market and that has made AMD reduce the price tag of some of its processors so that they can remain in the game.
