IBM informed in a press release that it’s in going to build a supercomputer that will be capable of a peak performance more than 1.6 petaflops, i.e. 1.6 thousand trillion calculations per second. The new supercomputer dubbed ‘Roadrunner’ will be four times faster than BlueGene/L(a supercomputer also built by IBM).
Gaming chips will be migrated from Sony’s PS3 console to supercomputers and the device will be finished until 2008 at U.S. Department of Energy’s Los Alamos National Laboratory. In the supercomputer, 16,000 standard processors will be engaged besides16000 cell processors, designed for the PS3, each chip containing eight processors. Each cell enables 256 billion calculations per second. The team hopes to procure 100,000 machines.
The huge machine will cover 12,000 square feet space at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

PS3 is now becoming popular for its high tech entertaining programs installed. This must be very expensive. Just in time for the holiday season, gamers and other folks who use payday loans responsibly have another reason to get their hands on a PS3 PlayStation: ”Home” has launched in open beta. Home is essentially a cross between ”Second Life” and Nintendo’s Mii avatars. PS3 users receive their own customizable avatars and virtual homes. Then they can chat via text and voice with and host friends online, find gaming buddies, buy and display virtual décor and goodies. The service is free, but clothing, furniture, and other toys will be sold through real money transactions. The free service is still in beta, but should be available to PS3 users worldwide by the end of the day on December 11. Nintendo Wii launched with support for player avatars and the Xbox 360 added avatar and related features with its November 2008 New Xbox Experience update. But PlayStation Home appears more sophisticated in its virtual world. The world features mini-games, in-world music options, trophy rooms and advertiser-supported locations. Whether or not Home will be a killer app for the PS3 remains to be seen. Some are grumbling that it looks like a virtual world where avatars try to sell you stuff you don’t need. Others, similar to those who see the value of no fax payday loans, are much more open-minded and hopeful that Home will be an online home away from home.
