Google has finally decided to join the Eclipse Foundation as an add-in provider. Eclipse is an open source community whose projects are focused on providing a vendor-neutral open development platform and application frameworks for building software on a not-for-Profit Basis. Eclipse Director Mike Milinkovich commented that they are simply thrilled on the decision of Google and they are excited on the way Google is using Eclipse as a platform for the development of Google Web Toolkit (GWT). Google has already given a demo of their GWT, which has been built on Eclipse RCP and JDT Technology. The deal between the Google and Eclipse Foundation was pulled together by Google’s Open Source Program Office that included Greg Stein and others. There was no word in the endorsement that whether or not Google will participate in the Open Source Community with some devoted resources.
