Internet speed records have been broken and that too twice in two days by University of Tokyo researchers. Data was sent at 7.67 Gbps with the aid of standard communications protocol and then they used modified protocols at 9.06 Gbps. This can be termed as the network’s final record since as per the rules a ten percent improvement is required for recognition therefore the next record to be achieved would be 10 Gbps. The previous record was 6.96 Gbps which was achieved in 2005.
Internet2 consortium has big plans and it plans to create a network with a 100 Gbps capacity. With a ten times improvement a movie could be sent in a few seconds rather than the current rate of half minute over the Internet2 as compared to two days for a typical home broadband line. IPv6 which is the current internet addressing system was used for achieving the record.
