DisKeeper has claimed that it is the first to develop a technology that can defragment a disk in the background. This will allow the users to continue doing the high priority tasks and when the system is idle or if some of the cycles of the system are going unused then the utility will use them for defragmenting the disk. The main innovation is the use of multitasking technology that works below the level of the OS scheduler. This allows the utility to defragment the disk on the fly. Traditionally Windows incorporates the use of a defragmenting utility but that has to be manually activated and as the utility makes the system slow so no one prefers to ever use it. This can be a boon for all the geeks who don’t have time to manually activate the system. DisKeeper is calling the new technology as InvisiTasking as the task is not given a priority by the Windows Scheduler and it runs itself in the background. The company has also applied for a patent for the InvisiTasking technology that it claims to be the first on the fly disk defragmenting technology. The utility will cost £23 for a home PC and £285 for a Windows Server.
