If you are using Windows XP Home Edition and want to upgrade to Windows XP Professional but don’t want to spend some more dollars on the purchase then you can try this hack.

After the hack your CD will be converted to XP Professional Edition.

Follow the below mentioned steps to do so:

• Insert your Windows Home Edition CD in the CD Drive
• Copy the root directory and the i386 directory to your hard disk
• Extract the boot sector of the Windows XP CD.
• Click Start and Then Run. Type REGEDIT and press the Enter key
• Highlight the text named HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
• Click File on the menu and select LOAD HIVE
• Open a file named Setupreg.hiv from the i386 folder that you have recently copied.
• Come back to the Registry Window and locate the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEHomekeyControlSet001Servicessetupdd

• Edit the default key and change the following values:
01 to 00
02 to 00

• Change the name of the HOMEKEY value to anything you like.
• Again locate the following under the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEHomekeyControlSet001Servicessetupdd

• Edit the DEFAULT key with the following values:
01 to 00
02 to 00

• Highlight HOMEKEY and Select File and Click on UNLOAD HIVE

That’s all now burn the content on a new CD and you now have a Windows XP Professional CD with you. Don’t forget to make the CD bootable. And the best part of the hack is that your Windows XP Home serial will be the serial of this newly made Windows XP Professional CD.
